All potential new students residing within the tri-state (NY,NJ,CT) area are eligible to try our free trial. Students may access any classes within their experience level during the trial. Proof of residency is required. Trial classes are not applicable to our competition programs.
* White Gis are required in all our general classes. Trying a no-gi class? Please wear all black gear. If you need to borrow gear during the trial please bring a valid ID.
Visitors are always welcomed by the academy, drop into a class or just stop by to watch. Filming is not permitted, photos are ok.

Gi Classes: White uniforms are to be worn in all our general classes. Colored Gis (white, black, navy, royal blue, and grey) are permissible during our competition training and open mat sessions. Outside affiliation patches are not permitted. For hygienic purposes the use of a rash guard is required underneath your uniform.
No-Gi Classes: The “Essential Jiu Jitsu ” branded no-gi uniform is required for all our general no-gi classes.
Uniform Rentals are available at the academy.
Essential Jiu Jitsu is a family environment, please be respectful to each other and our instructors at all times.
We do not support the use of foul language or behavior.
A shirt or rash guard is to be worn at all times inside the academy.
Please address all black belt instructors as Professor and non-black belts as coach.
Outside coaching is not permitted.
Please come to class prepared, with clean training gear and a good attitude. Keep finger and toes nails neatly trimmed. Refrain from training when ill or with injury. Please be sure to keep open wounds securely bandaged.
Keep feet clean, dirty feet are not acceptable on the training area.
Shoes should be worn at all times outside the training area. Shoes, food and drink are not permitted on the training area.
We highly suggest you remove all body piercings or jewelry during training sessions for your safety.
Electronic Devices are not permitted on the mat during training sessions.
If late, please sit or stand outside of the training area until you are welcomed by an instructor.
Please ask the instructor for permission before leaving the mat area.
Keep entrance to training area clear, bags and backpacks are to be kept in the locker rooms.
Make sure to keep your belt and stripes on at all times. After a roll immediately retie your belt and get ready for the next round.
During instruction please sit or stand in good posture. Talking should be kept at a minimum and relate to class material.
Know your limits but, work together and have fun!
Any belts, blue and up, are welcomed into our competition class. This class is fast paced and recommended only if you are serious about competing or like to train hard. The class consists mainly of sparring and drilling, so please be prepared to train every round. Sitting out on rounds is not acceptable in this class. White belts must get prior permission from Prof. Torres to attend this class.
